The University operates within the framework of the Jordanian Constitution and applicable national legislation governing human rights, labour relations, freedom of association, and employee representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">BAU recognizes employees\u2019 rights to freedom of association and to organize and join trade unions in accordance with applicable Jordanian legislation. These principles form part of the University\u2019s commitment to ensuring that labour rights are respected without discrimination, including for women and international staff, subject to the applicable legal and regulatory framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">Through its institutional regulations and employment practices, BAU seeks to promote fair treatment, protect employees\u2019 rights, and support a transparent and respectful working environment in which employees\u2019 interests and concerns can be addressed through appropriate institutional and legal mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Constitutional and Legal Framework<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">Chapter Two of the Jordanian Constitution, entitled <a href=\"Rights%20and%20Duties%20of%20Jordanians\">Rights and Duties of Jordanians<\/a>, establishes fundamental rights and responsibilities. Article 16 recognizes the right of Jordanians to hold meetings within the limits of the law and to establish societies and political parties, provided that their objectives are lawful, their methods peaceful, and their bylaws consistent with the Constitution. The establishment of societies and political parties and the regulation of their resources are subject to the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to that, all employees shall have the right to organise and join Labor unions In accordance to the regulations of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammanchamber.org.jo\/Uploaded\/Labor\/%D9%82%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%88%D9%86%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D9%85%D9%84%20%20%D9%88%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AA%D8%A9%20%D8%B1%D9%82%D9%85%20%208%20%20%20%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%A7%D9%85%201996%20.pdf\">Jordanian Labour Law No. 8 of 1996<\/a>\u201d, all Academic Staff are entitled to the freedom of association <strong><\/strong>and create general union for them. The relevant regulations are as follows<em>:<\/em> Labor Law and its amendments No. 8 of <strong><\/strong>1996 Page No.190 (\u201cA decision made to classify the occupations and industries whose workers are entitled to establish unions\u201d Article 1: clause 15). BAU recognise unions and Labor rights.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>How Does BAU Recognize unions for all?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">BAU is committed to creating a fair, inclusive, and equitable working environment in which all employees are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender or nationality. This commitment is reflected in a range of institutional policies and regulations, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainable.bau.edu.jo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Academic-Freedom-Policy.pdf\">Academic Freedom Policy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainable.bau.edu.jo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Anti-discrimination-Policy.pdf\">Anti-Discrimination Policy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bau.edu.jo\/bauar\/units\/Pers\/media\/m2021.pdf\">Code of Conduct and Job Ethics<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bau.edu.jo\/bauar\/Units\/Sustainability\/media\/DE_Strategy.pdf\">Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy<\/a>. Together, these frameworks support academic freedom, equal treatment, employee participation, and protection against discrimination, contributing to a working environment that respects the rights of academic and administrative staff, including women and international employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recognition of Employee Associations and Representation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">BAU&#8217;s commitment to employee participation is demonstrated through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bau.edu.jo\/bauar\/units\/Employee_club\/About.aspx\">Employees\u2019 Club<\/a>, established in 2013 to strengthen social, cultural, intellectual, sporting, and artistic relationships among university employees and to encourage engagement with similar associations at other Jordanian universities. These arrangements form part of the University&#8217;s commitment to fair, inclusive, and accountable employment practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Engagement with Professional Associations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-p wp-block-paragraph\">BAU also facilitates cooperation between its academic and administrative staff and professional organizations, including the Jordan Engineers Association. Examples include the Association&#8217;s participation in BAU&#8217;s Career Day, cooperation and partnership initiatives, and activities addressing professional development, women&#8217;s participation, and the role of associations in the local community. These efforts support the professional development and employment of engineering graduates and strengthen collaboration between academia and professional bodies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"intro-p\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JEAbalqa\/posts\/pfbid0Yf2V5VEanveFmH7Foa11VgHaeGTJLzPnvCTJZXpMR1kRSc6wCMee5dNFAnVDY8sMl\">Cooperation with the Jordan Engineers Association \u2013 Balqa Branch<\/a>: BAU strengthened its cooperation with the Jordan Engineers Association \u2013 Balqa Branch through the participation of the Association\u2019s Council in the student club celebration of the IEEE-BAU Center. The event highlighted opportunities for collaboration in training, technical workshops, scientific visits, and professional development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"intro-p\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bau.edu.jo\/News\/NewsDetail.aspx?news_id=16641\">The Role of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions in Protecting Workers\u2019 Rights and Empowering Youth in the Labour Market.<\/a> Ma\u2019an University College hosted a dialogue seminar entitled\u201d The seminar addressed workers\u2019 rights, improving working conditions, and the role of trade unions in preparing young people for employment. It also aimed to raise awareness of labour rights, promote understanding of trade union activities, and strengthen the connection between academic knowledge and practical workplace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"intro-p\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bau.edu.jo\/News\/NewsDetail.aspx?news_id=14700\">A Session on Supporting Women and Enhancing Their Role in Associations and The Local Community<\/a>: The session highlighted the importance of supporting women and strengthening their roles in associations and local communities through knowledge exchange and skills development. Dr. Jihan Al-Zoubi from BAU\u2019s Faculty of Law discussed the contribution of working women to families, society, and sustainable development, while Rawan Barakat, Director of the Raneen Foundation and Chair of the Women\u2019s Committee at the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, emphasized empowering women with disabilities through inclusive policies and expanded opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and investment.
