Proportion of Students Receiving Financial Aid to Attend University Because of Poverty

BAU is committed to expanding access to higher education for underprivileged students, ensuring that education rests as a fundamental human right. Each year, the university reserves a significant portion of its admissions for students from the bottom financial quintile, including those from remote areas, refugee camps, and disadvantaged regions. This commitment is supported by The Royal Benevolence Initiative for Jordanian Tribal Communities in Desert Schools, Schools in Challenging Circumstances, and the Department of Palestinian Affairs. By targeting economically weak students, the university seeks to empower them to pursue higher education, improve their living conditions, & foster community development. In collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, & through the Unified Admission Unit, Al-Balqa Applied University ensures equal access for marginalized students, reflecting its mission to promote educational equity and provide quality higher education to all.

BAU provides grants, scholarships, educational loans, and other forms of financial assistance to students facing economic hardship through its Student Support Fund, the national Student Support Fund system, and donor partnerships. These initiatives help reduce financial barriers, support students’ continuation in higher education, and promote equitable access to educational opportunities.

Financial support is provided through the Student Support Fund, university student-support mechanisms, national grants and loans, and local and international donor partnerships.

BAU provides emergency financial assistance to bachelor’s and diploma students experiencing financial need.

In 2025, 15,980 BAU students benefited from grants and loans. Among intermediate diploma students, the benefit rate exceeded 99%, with partial or full grants covering up to 45 credit hours for relevant diploma programs.

In 2026, 16,736 BAU students benefited from Student Support Fund grants and loans, with the benefit rate among intermediate diploma students again exceeding 99%.

BAU operates additional targeted assistance for students experiencing financial hardship. For the 2025/2026 academic year, 505 bachelor’s and diploma students applied to BAU’s Student Support Fund, with eligible applications approved following review and verification.
