Mental Health Support For Students
Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) provides students with access to mental health support through psychological counseling, student guidance, referral pathways, specialized mental-health services, and initiatives that actively promote good mental health. These provisions support students’ psychological well-being, early identification of mental-health concerns, mental-health literacy, prevention, and access to appropriate professional support.
Access to Mental Health Support for Students
The university provides students with psychological counselling and mental health support through a dedicated psychological counselling department in each faculty, ensuring access to services in a confidential and supportive environment. Services include individual and group counselling, guidance on academic and personal challenges, support for emotional and psychological well-being, early identification of psychological concerns, and referral to specialised care when required.
To facilitate access to specialised care, BAU’s accredited medical network includes psychiatric specialists clinics and Al-Rashid Hospital Centre, providing pathways to professional mental health assessment and treatment when required. These services complement the University’s counselling and referral arrangements and help students access appropriate specialist support.
In addition, BAU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jordanian Mental Health Association to implement the national initiative “Under Pressure?… Talk to Us.” The initiative aims to promote mental health awareness among students and improve access to evidence-based psychological support and treatment. The collaboration includes campus awareness and training programmes, early identification of students who may need support, confidential referral pathways, capacity-building for academic and administrative staff, and training volunteers in psychological first aid and recognising warning signs.
Active Promotion of Good Mental Health Among Students
BAU actively promotes mental health and psychological well-being among students through academic programmes, awareness initiatives, and practical learning opportunities. The Department of Psychology and Special Education contributes to developing knowledge and competencies in psychology, psychological counselling, and special education, supporting mental-health awareness, family guidance, early recognition of psychological needs, and a culture of well-being.
The Bachelor of Psychological Counseling programme further supports these efforts by equipping students with knowledge and practical skills in psychological counselling, assessment behavioural, support, and the promotion of psychological well-being.
