Research on Poverty

Al-Balqa Applied University identifies advanced scientific research focused on poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods as a key component of its contribution to SDG 1. BAU also supports scientific publication and research collaboration with institutions in low-income and developing countries.

GREEN Sustainability Report 2025/2026 – SDG 1: No Poverty, which identifies poverty reduction, sustainable livelihoods, scientific publication, and research collaboration with institutions in low-income and developing countries as BAU priorities.

BAU’s wider SDG 1 activities address socioeconomic challenges associated with poverty through employability, entrepreneurship, social innovation, skills development and sustainable livelihoods. The Sustainability Report identifies INTERNISA and My Community as initiatives providing practical training, internships, digital-skills development and mentoring for youth, women and marginalized groups to improve economic prospects and access to sustainable employment.

BAU also works with local communities on poverty alleviation and social inclusion through community-development activities and partnerships, including support for vulnerable populations and initiatives that create income-generating opportunities for local producers and small entrepreneurs.

No Poverty: FWCI

BAU’s research contribution to SDG 1 is assessed through Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI), reflecting the citation influence of its poverty-related research relative to comparable global research in the same subject fields, publication years, and publication types. This provides a field-normalized measure of the international scholarly impact and visibility of BAU’s research addressing poverty and related socioeconomic challenges
