Assistance to Low-carbon Innovation
BAU promotes low-carbon innovation through applied research, vocational training, academic programs, technology transfer, and operational sustainability, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The university focuses on practical solutions in energy, water, and agriculture, addressing Jordan’s resource constraints while developing local capacity and low-carbon technologies.
Key Areas of Assistance:
- Applied Research & Technology Transfer: Through the International Research Centre for Water, Environment, and Energy (IRCWEE), BAU leads projects on sustainable water management, renewable energy, wastewater reuse, and smart agriculture, reducing energy use and carbon emissions. Technology transfer initiatives extend these solutions to local communities.
- Specialized Technical Programs & Academic Initiatives:
- Clean Energy Technologies Programs: BAU offers academic and vocational programs in renewable energy, smart buildings, and energy efficiency, preparing graduates to lead Jordan’s energy transition.
- ECO-CAR Project: Builds technical capacity in Electrical and Hybrid Vehicles (EV/HEV), offering accredited professional diplomas and establishing EV/HEV laboratories.
- Smart Buildings & Infrastructure: Programs focus on energy- and water-efficient construction technologies.
- Renewable Energy Deployment: BAU implements large-scale renewable energy projects, including its 7 MW solar power station, which significantly reduces reliance on conventional energy and supports the national clean energy transition.
- Smart Agriculture: Initiatives promote water-saving irrigation, climate-smart farming, low-cost community training units, and waste-to-resource solutions to reduce carbon-intensive practices while enhancing food security.
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Through ICEC and the Jordan Open Innovation Platform (JOIP), BAU supports start-ups developing market-driven low-carbon and sustainable solutions.
- Operational Sustainability: BAU integrates renewable energy, resource rationalization, and green campus practices to lead by example.
